Question #1

What instruments can you fix? 

 

We work on almost every type of musical instrument. Our repair technicians specialize in woodwinds (flutes, clarinets, oboes, saxophones, piccolos, bassoons); brass (trumpets, trombones, tubas, sousaphones, French horns); stringed instruments (electric and acoustic guitars, violins, violas, cellos, basses), and electronics (keyboards, speakers, effects processors, amps). If you don’t see your instrument specifically listed, we can probably work on it. Just ask! (We do not service pianos, accordions, bagpipes, harmonicas, or kazoos.)

How much will it cost to repair my instrument?

The cost of any musical instrument repair can vary widely depending on the time it takes to complete the repair and the cost of any associated parts. We will provide an estimated cost at your request, but our pricing is in line with industry standards.

Question #3

Where do I bring my instrument for repair?

 

The best option is to bring your instrument directly to our shop at 7380 Industrial Road in Florence. We are in the back of the building between two loading docks. Our entrance is at the wooden deck. If you go to any other door, you won’t find us. If you haven’t already scheduled an appointment, call (859) 581-2134 to make sure someone is in the shop.

How long will it take to repair my instrument?

 

We always do our best to get your instrument back to you quickly, but the timeframe can vary based on the complexity of the repair, seasonal repair volume, and parts availability. If there is anything that would delay the quick turnaround of your repair, we will contact you with details and an estimated completion date.

Question #5

Do you guarantee your repair work?

 

We play-test all repaired instruments before they leave our shop because we want you to be highly satisfied with our work so you can get back to making music. It doesn’t happen often, but if you are ever dissatisfied with an instrument that we recently repaired, we encourage you to reach out so that we can evaluate the instrument and make things right.

Can I ship my instrument to you for repair?

 

Yes! We often repair instruments for out-of-town customers. Make sure to contact us for a shipping address and best practices for shipping your instrument to us safely.

What are your hours?

 

Please call to verify our availability before coming to our shop. We are generally available between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but sometimes we need to schedule deliveries or site visits to schools during those hours, and sometimes we are available outside those days and hours, so just give us a quick call to make sure someone is in the shop to help you. Are you authorized to complete a warranty repair on my instrument?

 

We can repair instruments from just about any manufacturer, and we are authorized by most instrument manufacturers to service their instruments under warranty. Question #9

How often should I bring my instrument in for cleaning and maintenance?

 

It’s a good idea to have your instrument professionally cleaned at least once each year. Regular maintenance and professional cleaning can help you to avoid costly repairs and can keep you sounding your best. Even if your instrument doesn’t have any obvious issues, regular play deposits dirt and oils which can buildup and lead to sticky slides, valves, and pads. Annual cleanings can address this buildup before it causes problems.

How will you clean my instrument?

 

It all depends on the type of instrument you have, but we follow the best practices of our industry and use products and processes that are safe for your type of instrument. Some metal instruments can be submerged in our 108-gallon ultrasonic cleaner. Ultrasonic cleaning uses a cleaning solution and sound waves to reach areas that brushes and hands cannot reach. This solvent-free cleaning method is an excellent choice for many instruments, but it can be time intensive as instruments with pads have to be completely disassembled before submersion in the ultrasonic cleaner and reassembled after.

My instrument is REALLY damaged, can you fix it?

 

We can fix almost anything! We have repaired instruments that have been run over by cars and instruments that have been left in an attic for half a century. We have made keys and parts for instruments when they are no longer available, but it might come down to whether fixing the instrument is worth the cost. We will recommend whether the monetary value of your instrument justifies the cost of repair, but ultimately, the decision is yours. Your instrument might be a family heirloom, or you might have some other emotional attachment that makes your instrument priceless. If that’s the case, we are happy to get your instrument in playing condition.
